چکیده مقاله |
The concept of flow was first proposed by Csikszentmihalyi (1975) based on the concepts of positive psychology. This concept refers to a positive mental state in which a person is totally focused and absorbed in an activity to the extent that nothing seems important anymore. At this optimal state, the person loses the perception of time in such a way that hours pass like minutes and he/she does not notice the passage of time. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and the degree of flow perceived by students in online education during the COVID-19 pandemic. The sample included 83 EFL learners who were selected by the convenience sampling method. Petrides et al.’s (2006) Emotional Intelligence inventory and Hwang et al.’s (2012) inventory of learners’ flow were applied. Statistical analysis of the data showed a positive and significant relationship between students' emotional intelligence and the degree of flow they perceived in online education in the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, it is suggested that instructors increase learners’ level of emotion by using interventions based on the characteristics of emotional intelligence and enhance their learning rate by producing a positive mental feeling and creating flow. |
