One of the most common problems teachers face is making their students to finish their homework and submit it until due date. In online education it is an even more serious issue. The purpose of this action research project is to understand the reasons why some students do not complete and submit their homework on time in online English classrooms. The participants of this study came from 2 different middle schools in two different cities in East Azerbaijan of Iran. The investigation took place in 11 weeks. 2 questionnaires and some interviews with students and teachers were used to gather information. Researchers used simple mathematics for data analysis. After we conducted this action research, it was found that there are so many factors involved like motivation, self-confidence, personality and self-regulation habits, insufficient feedback, educational goals, students’ perception, and families’ conditions. The analysis of data showed the most important reasons that will determine when students are going to finish their homework are having irrational amount of assignments in different lessons and difficulty of them. Breaking assignments into smaller tasks helped the teachers motivate students to complete their homework before due dates. Assigning different tasks and letting students to choose between these tasks is also beneficial. |
