The 2019 Coronavirus pandemic has triggered significant changes in education systems worldwide. The Iranian government has decided to adjust the education mode from face-to-face to online meetings using various learning management systems (LMS) such as Adobe Connect and Navid. Prompted by this change, the purpose of this mixed-methods study was threefold: a) to investigate Iranian ESP instructors' perceptions of the use of the Adobe Connect and Navid platforms, b) to examine the challenges faced by ESP instructors when using the Adobe Connect and Navid platforms, and c) to identify the difference in ESP instructors’ perception based on gender. The quantitative results revealed that ESP instructors’ perceptions towards Adobe Connect and Navid were positive. The finding was also showed that there was a significant difference between males and females of the use of the Adobe Connect and Navid platforms. Males’ perspective was more positive than females. The qualitative data showed that teachers experienced five challenges during online learning including lack of face-to-face interaction with students, inability of students to access these platforms, lack of students' motivation and engagement, inadequate training about the use of Adobe Connect and Navid, and time consuming to prepare online learning materials. The results of this study contribute to providing fruitful advices for English teachers, students, and educational authorities to enhance the efficacy of online teaching and learning activities, particularly during the global pandemic. |
