چکیده مقاله |
Writing skill and the ability to write are among the most effective skills in communicating with others. Certainly, knowing the effective factors on improving this skill can be a great help to teachers and other people involved in teaching this skill. According to the findings of Lambert and Garner (1982) during language learning, the learner somehow tries to integrate with the cultural group of that language and the national identity of that language and become a part of it. In contrast, Norton (2000) has shown the relationship and interaction between language and learner identity. Relying on the sociolinguistic, this qualitative research tries to investigate the interaction between national identity and improving writing skills. Using a modified version of the Taylor (2010) questionnaire with emphasis on identity models and a modified version of the McIntyre, Baker, Clement and Conrod (2011) questionnaire on tendency to communicate via writing the data was gathered. The participants in the current study were120 female randomly selected senior high school students, and 8 language teachers. The results of statistical analysis of data showed a moderate and significant relationship between cultural identity and the level of positive writing skills of participants, and a positive and significant relationship between national identity and their writing skills. The results of this research can be implied by teachers as well as syllabus designers. |
