چکیده مقاله |
The present study aimed at examining the impacts of Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) versus Group Investigation (GI) as cooperative learning techniques on Iranian intermediate EFL learners’ reading skill. To this end, 207 male intermediate EFL learners studying in Iran Language Institute (ILI) participated in the study. Data collection tools involved Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) reading pre-test, post-test, and proficiency test. The participants were randomly assigned into three groups (i.e., one control group and two experimental groups). The control group was instructed through conventional technique following an individualistic instructional approach. The first experimental group received GI technique. The second experimental group received CIRC technique. The collected data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and independent-samples t-test. Based on the findings of the present study, it was revealed that both experimental groups (i.e., CRIC and GI) were more effective in maximizing the students’ reading comprehension test scores. However, CRIC group outperformed the other two groups (i.e., GI and control). The implications are discussed in relation to the effectiveness of cooperative learning techniques in enhancing EFL learners’ reading comprehension. |
