چکیده مقاله |
This paper makes the case for the observation that effective and efficient teaching is largely a matter of successful communication between the teacher and learners, and that in order for an educator to be able to set about doing their pedagogical practice properly and achieve their stated pedagogical objectives, they need to attend closely to the specifics and nuances of the communicative teaching situation they are operating in. It has adopted Hymes' framework of the elements of a communicative context, otherwise known as the acronym SPEAKING (setting and scene, participants, ends, act sequence, key, instrument, norms, genre). Hymes' heuristic is a classic conceptualization and delineation of the various variables at work in the act of individuals involved in the transference of their messages. More specifically, the study aimed at closely scrutinizing the components of the communicative context of online teaching, which has gained an unprecedented reception currently at the current COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. The study ends with the provision of practical suggestions and further implications for how pedagogy in general, and L2 pedagogy in particular, might benefit from equipping educators engaged in online teaching with and sensitizing them toward the numerous facets of their communicative teaching. |
