The Effect of Explicit Teaching of Semantic Macro-Structures on Iranian EFL learners’ Writing Quality

چکیده مقاله
The quality of writing is considered as one of the serious issues of academic education. There are a number of factors that contribute to improve academic writing skills. It is supposed that the success or failure of a student to write is often associated with their familiarity with semantic macro-structures. Therefore, the main concern of the present study was to investigate the effect of teaching of semantic macro-structures on Iranian EFL learners’ writing skill. To this aim, 60 intermediate EFL learners (male and female) were selected from Qods Azad University. The participants went through a quasi-experimental study in which the experimental group enjoyed a through treatment on semantic macro-structures. The analysis of the final paragraphs proved a significant quality difference regarding the three different rules in macro_ structure, namely: deletion, generalization and construction. The findings of the study are hoped to be of great value for university learners and instructors.
