چکیده مقاله |
It is confirmed that human’s first language affects the way one learns his/her second language. Comparing this issue with third language learning aroused the researchers to investigate the influence of third language (English) on Lori-Persian bilinguals versus Persian monolinguals . Thirty intermediate EFL students from Afarinesh language institution participated in this study. The first group consisted of 15 LPBs students and the second one consisted of 15 PMs students. Firstly, a questionnaire was used and the researcher went through mono/bilingualism and proficiency level of learners in the language skills. Then a list of English words was presented to the students. Then the students were asked to write the meaning of words they knew. The researcher taught 30 words meaning of which none of the students in both groups knew. Also, the researcher used Oxford Placement Test (OPT) for homogeneity purpose. After that the researcher took the pretest (based on 50 unknown words). Meanwhile, students went through the instruction. In the end, the researcher conducted the posttest and analyzed the performance of both groups on L3 general, recognition and production vocabulary. Results of three T-tests and ANOVA showed that LPBs in general and in L3 production vocabulary learning outperformed their PMs and there was no significant difference between LPBs and PMs in L3 recognition vocabulary learning. |
