In spite of the research on the efficiency of data-driven (DDL) method on learning and retention of general vocabulary, the present study has aimed at exploring the issue in the realm of English for academic purposes (EAP) vocabulary learning. This study, has aimed to delve more deeply into the dynamics and nuances of learning EAP vocabulary via examination of the impact of deploying DDL method of instruction on the enhancement of long-term EAP vocabulary retention. In this vein, 60 participants whose scores dropped one SD above and below the average on the Nelson proficiency test were chosen. In the treatment group, an online concordancing program was used as the teaching tool, however, the control group received instruction through the same conventional textbook-based method. After an interval of 2 weeks, all participants’ long-term EAP vocabulary retention was tested, on the macro level, and the effect of DDL on different genders’ EAP vocabulary retention was probed, on the micro level. The findings of analysis by ANOVA and T-test and showed that DDL assisted the overall long-term retain of vocabulary, but did not reveal any substantial impact on the long-term persistence of vocabulary by two genders. At the end, implications are explored about the use of DDL and its role on English language pedagogy. نماد «مورد تأیید انجمن» |
