The present study was conducted to investigate if there is any significant relationship between Iranian EFL learners' critical thinking and their inferential ability in reading comprehension regarding language proficiency. The participants of this study were 127 English students . These students were both male and female comprising of 48 male and 79 female English students from universities in Isfahan. There were three instruments for collecting data: a critical research questionnaire and an inferential reading comprehension test. To fulfill the objective of the study, the Pearson’s product-moment correlation coefficient was calculated to find any significant relationship between these variables. Next, the r values calculated above were converted into standard z scores in order to see if the correlations for the two groups are significantly different. Results show no significant difference between the two correlation coefficients in terms of language proficiency with shared variances of 19% and 33% for the low and high proficiency participants respectively, which according to Cohen’s guidelines are small… |
